A large fire at Pacific Seafood in Newport prompted the Oregon State Fire Marshal to send a hazardous materials team and additional firefighting crews to assist local responders Sunday.
The Linn-Benton hazardous materials team, known as State Hazmat Team 05, responded because the facility uses anhydrous ammonia for refrigeration. Team members used specialized equipment to monitor air quality and model potential impacts to help authorities determine evacuation areas.
