On Friday evening (June 26), a community watch party for the Tabernacle Choir’s historic Hollywood Bowl concert was held at a local meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Williams Highway in Grants Pass. What could have been a concert screening became something far more memorable- a celebration of music, service, and community.
Before the program began, volunteers welcomed attendees with hot dogs, chips, cookies, and cold water. It was a simple meal, but one that immediately created an inviting atmosphere. A room dedicated to children’s arts and crafts also provided families with young children a place where little hands could stay busy while adults enjoyed the event.
The concert itself was shown on a large screen in the chapel. Still, additional viewing rooms- including the Relief Society room- were also available for those who preferred a quieter or less crowded setting. The Relief Society, founded in 1842, is one of the oldest and largest women’s organizations in the world, and seeing its meeting space used to help make the event more welcoming felt fitting.
Another welcome sight was a JustServe booth, the Church-sponsored volunteer organization that connects people with local service opportunities. While the music took center stage, JustServe quietly reminded everyone that service is one of the event’s lasting messages. Its presence reflected the evening’s theme: building stronger communities by helping one another.
The concert celebrated the Tabernacle Choir’s return to the Hollywood Bowl one hundred years after its first appearance there in 1926. Over the past century, the Choir has grown into one of the world’s most recognized choral ensembles, sharing messages of hope through music across the globe. Returning to one of America’s most iconic outdoor concert venues made this centennial performance especially meaningful.
The performances themselves were outstanding. Donny Osmond’s unmistakable charisma lit up the stage, reminding audiences why he has remained such a beloved entertainer for generations. The Bonner Family brought incredible energy and heartfelt harmonies, while “The Prayer” was nothing short of breathtaking- a performance that filled the Bowl with emotion and left a lasting impression.
One of the evening’s most inspiring aspects extended far beyond the music itself. Every dollar raised through ticket sales for the Hollywood Bowl performances was dedicated to trusted global charities that support the health, education, and well-being of women and children, including CARE, Helen Keller Intl, and The Hunger Project. To further magnify that impact, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints pledged to match every dollar raised, effectively doubling the charitable contributions. It was a powerful reminder that the concerts were more than a celebration of music- they were an opportunity to transform an unforgettable evening into meaningful service for families around the world.
It was also exciting to know that a much larger community gathering was taking place at the Jackson County Expo in Central Point. Hundreds throughout Southern Oregon were able to experience the same evening together, united by music despite being miles apart.
This event offered something refreshingly simple: neighbors gathering together, children laughing over crafts, volunteers serving meals, and families sharing an evening of extraordinary music. It was a reminder that hope, kindness, and community are still very much alive- and for everyone who attended, it was an evening that won’t soon be forgotten
