Soon, the autumn fires
blazing red and gold in
the trees will be
replaced with twinkling
white lights. Yes, the
most wonderful time of
the year is just around
the corner and we will
celebrate Christmas
time in the city. On
Saturday, the
Chamber of
Commerce, downtown
merchants, the Rogue
River Fire District and
other Rogue Riverarea
residents strung
thousands of lights in
the trees and shrubs at
the Downtown Plaza.
Organized by Holly
Spitz of Farmer's
Insurance, nearly 20
volunteers worked all
day in the drizzle and
nippy breeze.
Determined to
light up the holiday
season and
keep spirits
merry and bright,
the Chamber
would like community
support in
keeping the
plaza "userfriendly,
safe and
pretty" throughout
the entire
season, Spitz
said. The downtown
Rogue
River celebration
officially begins with
carols, the Christmas
tree-lighting ceremony
and a visit from St.
Nick on December 5.
